welcome to the clifton hotel
old west charm - modern elegance

The Clifton Hotel - in Clifton Arizona - was built in 1890 and is beautifully renovated. Once a cowboy hotel (some say haunted hotel), it is located next to the San Francisco River and surrounded by steep mountain cliffs.

The hotel changed hands several times over the years, and various owners attempted different reconfigurations, including some combined rooms and dropped ceilings. In addition to being a cowboy hotel, the property was used as a halfway house, a home for children in transition, and apartments.

On October 1, 1983, there was a devastating flood in Clifton, and the hotel took on 6 1/2 feet of water. The hotel was filled with silt from the nearby San Francisco River and was strewn with debris. It seemed an impossible task to clean up the mess and so was essentially abandoned at that time.

In 2017, new owners - Matt and Karen Frye - came with a vision to restore the hotel to its original beauty while providing amenities that make each room or suite feel like home.

To that end, there are six studio rooms with bed, bath, and kitchenette, and two suites that have clawfoot tubs. Each room has gigantic windows, measuring 2.5 feet wide by 6.5 feet tall.

The hotel also boasts a beautiful courtyard, a common area for snacking and relaxing, and a full-service bar. The bar is reminiscent of an old western tavern with an ornate bar-back, built in Silver City, NM, in 1904.

The Clifton Hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places.
